WICHITA, Kan.-- The Wichita State men's tennis team rallied in singles play, but came up short in a 5-2 loss to Big 12 foe Nebraska Saturday afternoon at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

The Huskers won the doubles point, taking two of three matches from the Shockers. WSU's lone doubles win came when Thiago Dos Santos Santos and Albert Ballesta won the No. 2 match over Nebraska's Calin Paar and Renato Melo in a 9-7 decision. In the No. 1 match, WSU's Tiago Espirito Santo and Adrian Chermaci dropped an 8-4 decision to David Bendheim and Tobias Schneider, while Nebraska's tandem of Francois Van Impe and Hendrik Stahmer took the No. 3 match by defeating WSU's Jonathan Obrist and Kevin Gardner, 8-4.

The Shockers rallied back in singles play. Back-to-back wins in the No. 6 and No. 3 matches gave the Shockers a 2-1 lead with four matches remaining. In the No. 6 match, Matt Teivans defeated Nebraska's Karl Jones 6-0, 6-2, while the No. 3 match went to Thiago Dos Santos in a 6-2, 6-3 win over Nebraska's Francois Van Impe.

Nebraska countered with a rally of their own to win the match. WSU's Albert Ballesta dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Nebraska's Calin Paar in the No. 2 match, while Jonathan Obrist suffered a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 setback against Nebraska's Hendrik Stahmer. Nebraska's Renato Melo won the match for the Huskers with a 7-5, 6-4 win over WSU's Adrian Chermaci in the No. 5 match. The Huskers added an insurance win by taking the No. 1 match when Nebraska's David Bendheim took a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision from Tiago Espirito Santo.

With the loss, the Shockers fall to 11-3. Wichita State opens conference play with a trip to Indiana State Saturday, April 5.
