Box Score

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State improved to 9-3 on the year with a 5-1 victory over TCU (9-6).

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Conor Gillaspie kept it going, reaching safely on an error by TCU shortstop Bryan Kervin.  Dusty Coleman drew a walk and Tyler Weber managed an infield hit allowing Gillaspie to score.  Josh Workman ripped one up the middle, plating Coleman, and the Shockers had an early 2-0 advantage.  A walk to Clinton McKeever loaded the bases and Tyler Hill fired a line drive towards first base, but Matt Vern was able to come up with the play to end the inning.

The Shockers struck again in the next inning.  Vern fielded a ground ball from Williams, Jr., but TCU pitcher Seth Garrison pulled his foot off the bag and the runner was safe at first.  Andy Dirks bunted for a single and Ryan Jones moved the runners over with a ground out.  Gillaspie extended his hitting streak to 11 games and picked up two RBI with a double lined into shallow left field.  WSU had scored four unanswered runs by the end of the second frame.

Gillaspie's second double of the night drove in Ryan Jones, who reached on a gapper to right-center field, giving WSU a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The Horned Frog's only run came in the top of the fifth after three consecutive singles loaded the bases and an infield single to third base by Kervin crossed a run.
TCU again had runners in the sixth after back-to-back hits but gained two outs quickly as Vern struck out and Clint Arnold was thrown out at third by catcher Tyler Weber to complete a double play.  Weber gunned it to second during the next at bat to catch Bryan Holaday stealing and get Wichita State out of the jam.

WSU starting pitcher Rob Musgrave improved to 2-0 with one earned run in 6.1 innings, scattering seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts.   Grant Muncrief relieved the senior in the top of the seventh and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.  Coleman made his first appearance on the mound this season and went three-up, three-down to make quick work of the ninth and seal the Shockers' 5-1 win.

Gillaspie continues to be hot at the plate, ending the night with a three-for-four effort, one run and three RBI.  Dirks had three singles in five at bats.
The three-game series continues tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
