Aces Race Past Shocks, 94-60

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Evansville (14-7, 8-2) won its eighth-straight as the Aces raced past Wichita State (8-14, 2-8), 94-60, Friday night inside Roberts Stadium.

On a night where Evansville's guards posed a tough matchup for the Shockers, it was junior forward Shannon Novosel that stole the show, scoring seven of UE's first 10 points en route to equaling a career-high 20 on the night.

Kiki Stephens led the Shockers with 16 points.

Kyrie Kinder's jumper with 17 minutes left in the first gave WSU a 6-5 lead before the Aces ripped off a 9-0 run to take a 14-6 lead by the 14-minute mark. The Shockers then went scoreless for four-plus minutes, but UE would not be able to to advantage as a Jacie Hoyt basket cut the deficit to 16-12 with 11:42 left in the first, capping a 6-2 Shocker run.

A flurry of Shocker turnovers and a Novosel 3-pointer helped spark an 11-4 Evansville run as Anaris Sickles connected on a pair of free throws to give UE a 27-16 advantage, as close as the Shockers would be for the rest of the night.

An Ashley Bamberger 3-pointer with 4:39 left in the opening half gave UE a 34-22, sparking a 17-0 Evansville run, helped in part by another Shocker scoring drought, that put the Aces up 48-22 with 1:46 left in the half. The teams traded points for the final miunte, sending UE to the break up 56-30.

The Shockers shot 37-percent from the field in the first, but UE's seven first-half 3-pointers and 15 free throws helped the Aces hold on to a large lead over the final minutes of the half.

WSU could never recover from the halftime deficit, getting no closer than 24 in the second frame.

The two-game Valley road swing wraps up for the Shockers at 2:05 p.m., Sunday at Southern Illinois.
