Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- Toure' Murry finished with a team-high 15 points and helped fuel a furious second half comeback that fell just short for Wichita State as the Shockers fell to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 60-58 loss to Bradley (8-5, 2-0), Wednesday night inside Charles Koch Arena.
Fellow freshman Garrett Stutz finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Theron Wilson had a game-high 18 points for Bradley. Eddren McCain and Sam Singh also finished in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Shockers jumped out to an early 11-4 lead thanks to hot shooting and suffocating pressure defense. Stutz fueled the run with three baskets, including a jumper just inside of the three-point arc. A full-court press and pressure defense forced three turnovers in four possessions.
Five different players scored during an 11-0 Braves run that spanned five and a half minutes and gave BU a 15-11 lead with 9:27 to play in the half. After WSU tied it at 15, Wilson scored four points as part of an 8-0 run to give BU a 23-15.
WSU went into the locker room trailing 36-27 as the Shockers shot 48 percent in the half. Stutz led the Shocker effort with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.
The teams traded baskets to start the second half. A steal and fast-break dunk by A.J. Hawkins brought the sell-out Koch Arena crowd to its feet followed by a layup from Clemente brought WSU within seven, 42-35, with 14:53 to play in the game.
Graham Hatch had five points as part of a 7-2 run that cut the BU lead to 50-46 at the 7:36 mark. Hatch hit a deep jumper that was originally ruled a two-point basket but was later changed to a three-pointer after an official review.
After cutting the lead to three with just over a minute to play, WSU got the defensive stop they needed when Clemente stole an errant pass. Clevin Hannah found Murry open on the wing for a three-pointer to tie the game at 58 with just 26 seconds on the clock. The Shockers again needed a stop and got it initially as Sam Maniscalco's driving layup attempt rolled off the iron. However, Singh grabbed the offensive rebound and laid the ball in for the 60-58 win.
WSU is next in action Sat., Jan. 3, when the Shockers travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, and take on Northern Iowa.
