WBB Falls at Bradley, 66-54

Peoria, Ill.- Wichita State outrebounded the Braves, 42-35, but Bradley forced 26 turnovers en route to a 66-54 win over the Shockers.  With the loss, Wichita State fell to 6-11 and 0-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference.  Bradley picked up its first conference win and moved to 1-3 in the MVC and 7-8 on the season.

Dara Frazier led the Shockers with 11 points and five rebounds.  Kiki Stephens added 10 points and brought down six boards while Whitney Rice picked up seven assists.  Frannie Vathauer contributed nine points in 11 minutes with three-straight three pointers.  Marcy Sudbeck brought down a game-high nine rebounds.

Jenny Van Kirk was the only Brave in double-digits with 14 points.  Kelly Krumwiede followed with nine points and Renee Frericks and Megan Klingler added eight a piece.  Krumwiede and Klingler tied for a team-high six rebounds.

Wichita State shot 34.6 percent to a Bradley 41.5 percent, but the Shockers sank 14-of-19 free throws to shoot 73.7 percent, while the Braves were 5-of-10.

Bradley's Skye Johnson helped the Braves seize control of the game in the first half. Johnson sparked a 17-2 Braves run that gave BU a 33-18 advantage with 5:42 to play in the first half.

Bradley extended its lead to as many as 16 points on a Frericks three-pointer with 2:52 left in the first half, but the Shockers used an 8-2 spurt in the final 2:23 of the half to head into the locker room trailing 40-30.

Wichita State trimmed Bradley's lead to seven points in the opening minutes of the second half, before Bradley was able to push its lead back to double digits with a 9-2 spurt that included four points by Klingler and extended the Braves lead to 53-39 with 12:45 to play.

A Shocker basket with 12:12 to play cut the advantage to 53-41, but Bradley defense dominated down the stretch. Wichita State went nearly 10 minutes without a field goal, going 0-for-11 from the field and committing five turnovers during that span, before  Vathauer nailed a three-pointer with 2:32 to play to cut the Braves lead to 62-48. The Braves led by as many as 18 points (62-44) in the second half and ended with the 66-54 victory.

 WSU wraps up the weekend road trip Saturday night at UNI.
