Former Shocker Standout to Compete at World Championship

WICHITA, Kan. - Former Wichita State distance runner Desiraye Osburn will run for the United States national team at the World Cross Country Championships in Kenya this month.

Osburn qualified for the team by placing eighth in the USA Cross Country Championships in Boulder in early February. The top six finishers earned a spot on the team. When two runners dropped out, Osburn moved in and will now compete for a world title. Osburn ran the 8-kilometer course, her first race of that distance, in 28:50.

Osburn leaves in mid-March for the March 24 race in Mombasa, Kenya. She gets a second chance to run an 8-kilometer race in the North American, Central American and Caribbean Cross Country Championships this weekend in Orlando. She just wrapped up a weekend in Boston, Mass., where she competed in the AT&T USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, running the mile race and finishing in seventh place (4:40.17).

While at Wichita State, Osburn was a four-time NCAA All-American as well as an eight-time MVC Champion.
