Box Score PEORIA, Ill.- Wichita State (12-8, 3-6) fought back from a 20 point deficit to come within four in the second half, but Bradley (14-7, 5-4) overcame any Shocker pressure for a 78-63 victory Saturday night in Peoria, Ill. The Shockers outscored the Braves 38-34 in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 19 point BU advantage of the first.
Kyle Wilson led the Shockers with 15 points and eight rebounds. P.J. Couisnard and Ryan Martin followed close behind with 14 points a piece.
Zach Andrews posted a double-double for Bradley, leading all scorers with 21 points and bringing down 10 rebounds. Will Franklin and Daniel Ruffin added 17 each and Danny Adams chipped in 15.
A three pointer by Couisnard, in the earliest minutes, gave WSU their only lead of the game, 5-4. Bradley answered with a 16-4 run, capped by a shot from Adams from behind the arc. A Wilson layup ended the drought for the Shockers and a three-point play from Martin cut the lead to eight at the 10:27 mark.
Wichita State couldn't force a stop on the defensive end, as 11 unanswered points for Bradley gave the Braves a 19 point advantage at the half.
Bradley came out and immediately extended their lead to the largest of the game, 21, on a Ruffin jumper. Then, Wichita State showed some life and went on an 11-1 run to close the gap, 47-36. The Braves responded by posting four uncontested baskets to extend their lead back to 17.
The deficit was cut to single-digits, 55-46, on another 11-2 shocker run. A Couisnard tip-in and a three pointer from Matt Braeuer brought the Shockers to within 6, and Gal Mekel sank two free throws to move WSU as close as they had been since early minutes, 57-53.
Three-point shooting quickly extended the Braves lead back to 11, but Wilson was sent to the line on back-to-back plays and the senior made good on the four consecutive shots to make it 68-61 with 4:15 remaining.
Bradley held off the Shockers with a 10-2 run down the stretch to end the game, 78-63. The Braves shot 58 percent on the night compared to a Shocker 35. WSU out-rebounded BU 35-32, but Bradley took advantage of 18 points off of Shocker turnovers.
Wichita State returns home to take on the Drake Bulldogs Wednesday night in Charles Koch Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
