Biography

2006-07 (Junior): Matt Braeuer's 2006-07 honors included the Shelley Cox KAKE-TV Leadership Award and the Warren Armstrong Jabali Assists Award winner...He scored a career-high 21 points at Missouri State Jan. 7, and also picked up a career-high 10 assists against Drake Jan. 24...Scored 18 points on 5-of-5 shooting that included a 2-of-2 effort from the arc against Wyoming...The only shot he missed during the game was a free throw as he hit 6-of-7 from the line, while he also had three assists and a steal...Had seven double-figure scoring games, including a team-leading 18-point performance against Missouri State in the Valley Tournament...Known as a tough competitor, he was hit in the ribs against USC and only played 12 minutes, and also missed two games after a concussion he sustained in the SIU game.

 

2005-06 (Sophomore)...Braeuer hit the game-winner against Creighton as time expired in Charles Koch Arena to give WSU its 21st win...Set career-highs against Missouri State in Wichita with 16 points on six field goals, three being three-pointers...Braeuer has had his share of adversity the last being an injury to his lower leg suffered in the Evansville game Feb. 1...Earlier in the season, he returned to practice Nov. 16, after a bout with mononucleosis kept him out of practice, as well as WSU’s second exhibition Nov. 10...He had missed several days with illness and a concussion...Braeuer also only played seven minutes against SIU Jan. 2 after suffering a thigh bruise...In addition, he also received stitches in his shin after diving into the bench at Missouri State to chase a loose ball.

 

2004-05 (Freshman): Matt Braeuer was a part of the youth movement off the bench that gave WSU and its fans an added spark of energy as a freshman... He had the 15th-best season three-point percentage in WSU history, hitting 43.4 percent (23-53) which also led the team...Had a three-pointer in 12 games, including three against Evansville on New Year’s Eve that led to a career-high 11 points... Matched that output in the NIT game at Vanderbilt...His other double-figure scoring game was 10 points against San Francisco in Wichita.

 

High School: Named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 5A First Team All State as a senior, as well as first team all-region and MVP of District 13-5A...Averaged 23 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals as a senior...Career-highs included 38 points, 13 assists, 11 rebounds and 12 steals...Also named all-district in baseball...Averaged 16 points and four rebounds as a junior in leading Belton High to a 23-11 record in 2002-03....As a sophomore helped his team to district championship in 17-4A and regional quarterfinals, the first district title in 37 years for Belton...Academically, he was named Academic All-District three years...Lettered three years in basketball, three years in cross country, three years in baseball at BHS.

 

Personal: Son of Ed and Penny Braeuer of Belton, Texas...Born April 23, 1986 in Austin, Texas...Has a younger brother, Eric, and a younger sister, Meghan...Coached by his dad in high school...Signed with WSU in the Fall of 2003... Majoring in sports administration at WSU, with aspirations to coach basketball.
