WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State (3-4) got a season-high 13 points from Daria Frazier, and the post combination of Antionette Wells and Kiki Stephens combined for 27 points and 17 rebounds as the Shockers snapped a two-game losing skid with a 81-60 win over Prairie View A&M (2-3), Friday night inside Charles Koch Arena.
Frazier played her best game of the young season, coming off the bench to provide the Shockers an offensive spark to the tune of 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Every Shocker on the roster scored with the exception of Whitney Rice, who ran the point well with four assists in 17 minutes. Antionette Wells led all players with 16 points, while Kiki Stephens nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Starters Taylor Steven and Lexee McDonnell each chipped in eight points, with McDonnell adding a team-high six assists, and Steven three steals, which tied Wells for the most steals by a Shocker player. Freshman Breezy Martin posted her first career point on a free throw in the second half, and Kyrie Kinder added 25 steady minutes while chipping in seven points.
Gaati Werema and Shavonne Smith each led the Panthers with 15 points, with Werema scoring a double-double after pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Karessa Sauls chipped in 10 points for the Panthers in the losing effort.
Wichita State took the lead at the 18:24 mark of the first half following a Stephens basket, and the Shockers never looked back, stretching the lead to as many as 21 at the half after a McDonnell basket gave WSU a 45-24 lead at the break.
The Panthers never threatened in the second half, as the Shockers stretched the lead to as many as 29 and cruised to their third win of the season.
WSU shot 48.6 percent from the field on the evening, including a sizzling 53 percent from the floor in the first half. The Shockers limited turnovers to just 17, and forced 22 Panther miscues, and limited PVAMU to just 15 percent from three-point range on the night.
The Shockers will enjoy a mini-break for final exams, and are next in action at 2 p.m., Saturday against New Mexico State inside Charles Koch Arena. The game will be shown live on Kansas Now 22.
