Evansville tied the game at 25-25, following a Senff three-point play with 3:35 left in the first and retook the lead on a Senff layin with 2:53 left in the first that gave UE and 27-25 advantage. UE used back-to-back three-pointers to push out to a 33-27 lead with just under two minutes left in the first, but the Shockers answered with a quick 5-0 run to close to within 33-32 with 1:20 left before the break.
The Shockers recorded the first sixth tie of the first half following an Alex Bunton free throw with :40 seconds left and WSU went to the break with a 35-33 lead following a Kinder jumper with 11 seconds gave the Shockers the edge at halftime.
A Senff three-pointer gave UE its biggest lead of the second half to that point, a five-point margin, 51-46, as the Purple Aces came out of the break and outscored the Shockers 20-13 in the first six-plus minutes of the second frame to lead 53-48 by the 13:18 mark of the second half.
Evansville led by as many as six, before the Shockers went on a 7-0 run capped by a Kyrie Kinder runner that gave WSU a 60-59 lead with 9:30 left. UE quickly answered with a Felke three-pointer to retake the lead, 62-60, with 9:11 left in regulation.
The Shockers regained the advantage, 63-62, following Vathauer's third three-pointer of the afternoon, but UE had yet another answer and grabbed the lead after a Jennings basket gave the Purple Aces a 64-63 lead with 6:23 left in the second. A Marcy Sudbeck three-point play tied the game at 66-66 with just under five minutes left, but the Purple Aces took a two-point advantage following a pair of Parker free throws with 4:23 left in the game. WSU led by as many as 75-70 at the 2:18 mark following a pair of Wells free throws, but UE used a 6-1 run to tie the game, 76-76, with 1:17 left in regulation after a pair of free throws from Sickles. A Wells basket with 1:02 left was answered with a Senff bucket with :49.8 left on the clock, and neither team could score in the final seconds forcing overtime.
Evansville came out of the gates in the extra frame on fire, scoring the first eight points of the overtime period to pull away to a 86-78 lead after a pair of Amanda DeVries free throws, with 3:54 left in the extra period. McDonnell finally ended the Shockers' drought with a three-pointer with 3:31 left, but the Purple Aces had an answer for everything, and Senff's three-pointer with 2:19 left in the game gave UE a nine-point lead. The Purple Aces held on to that lead until the Shockers cut it to five points, 97-92, after a Wells layin with :08 seconds remaining, and McDonnell's fifth three-pointer of the day with :02 seconds left fashioned the final score, 99-97.
