WICHITA, Kan. - A hot shooting second half, four Shockers in double-figures and double-doubles from both Antionette Wells and Kiki Stephens helped push Wichita State (2-2) to a 78-71 win over UMKC (1-6) Tuesday night inside Charles Koch Arena.

Wells posted a season-best 16 points and 14 rebounds for her 19th career double-double, while Stephens helped the cause with a double-double of her own, her fifth career double effort, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Marcy Sudbeck added seven points for the Shockers, as 10 WSU players scored in the game.
Brittny Picconi poured in a game-high 19 points for UMKC, and she was joined in double-figures by two other Kangaroos - Alyssa Klein's 14 points and Chazny Morris' 11. Klein led all Kangaroo rebounders with nine, while Jowan Ortega led all players with six assists.

UMKC took its first lead of the game following a pair of Klein free throws at the 11:33 mark, but Whitney Rice answered with a three-pointer to give the Shockers a 14-12 lead with just over 11 minutes left in the half.
The Kangaraoos regained the lead with 6:44 remaining after a Morris three-pointer gave UMKC a 20-18 advantage. Antionette Wells' turnaround jumper with 7:40 left built the WSU lead to 59-55, and back-to-back three-pointers from Kinder and Steven gave the Shockers a 65-57 lead, one they would not give up again. UMKC would make it interesting down the stretch however, as the Kangaroos used a late 4-0 run to pull within five points at the 1:33 mark following an Ortega free throw, but two free throws down the stretch from Steven helped seal the win.
