top 10 in the final seven tournaments of the year... Earned five MVC
Golfer-of-the-Week awards (Sept. 21, March 21, March 28, April 11, and April
25)... Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the
Week for March 12-18... Turned in a 70.92 stroke average to lead the MVC... Led
team to six tournament titles, including the MVC Championship in Hutchinson,
Kan.... Placed in the top 10 in all but one Spring tournament... Claimed first
career tournament victory at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational, hosted by
UT-Arlington on Sept. 19-20, 2011... Scored a 36-hole total 139 (75-64) in a
tournament shortened by the presence of bees... Posted a career-low round 64 in
the second round to charge ahead to the championship... Earned second individual
title at the Desert Shootout, hosted by Denver University on March 22-24, 2012...
Won the tournament with a 54-hole total 202 (68-68-66)... Shot even better but
placed 3rd at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 9-10, firing a
54-hole total 201 (67-66-68)... Tied for 7th at the MVC Championship
with a 54-hole total 222 (72-77-73)... Earned WSU's top score the NCAA Stanford
Regional on May 17-19, placing 8th with a 54-hole total 205
(70-68-67)... Led team to three consecutive tournament titles from March 19-April
3... Becker's effort at the Regional helped the Shockers to a 9th
place team finish... Also won the Brazilian Amateur Championship for the
second-consecutive year, topping two challengers by scoring a birdie on the
first playoff hole.
As a sophomore...
Named to the MVC All Conference and Scholar-Athlete Team... Two-time MVC
Golfer-of-the-Week (Feb. 16 and March 30)... Registered a 73.13 stroke average
over 11 tournaments... Was the Shockers' top finisher at the NCAA Central
Regional, hosted by Indiana University ... Placed 20th with a 54-hole
total 217 (74-73-70)... Earned his first career top-10 finish by placing 6th
to lead the Shockers at the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of
Houston on March 25-26, 2011 with a 54-hole total 209 (70-69-70), his top mark
of the season...Tied for 14th at the Rio Pinar Invitational, hosted by
UCF on March 15-16, with a 54-hole total 215 (71-73-71)... Earned a 17th
place finish Rice University Intercollegiate on Feb. 21-22, 2011 with a 54-hole
total 217 (72-73-72)... Led WSU with a 21st place finish at the
UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational, hosted by UTSA on Feb. 14-15, 2011, with a 54-hole
total 217 (69-73-75)... Helped the Shockers to the 2011 MVC Championship with a
16th-place finish (79-76-77=232)... Led his native country of Brazil
to second place at the South American Team Championships... Won the Brazilian
Amateur Championship.
As a freshman...
Finished his first year as a Shocker with a 76.42 stroke average in 11
tournaments... Placed 13th at the Wolf Pack Classic, October
5-6, 2009 with a 54-hole total 215, a season-best... Finished strong shooting a
low-round of 69 over the final 18 holes to shave four strokes off his total...
Placed 27th at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference
Championship and again saved his best round for the final day (83-83-78)...
Turned in a solid effort at the NCAA Regional at Texas A&M with a 54-hole
total 225 (71-75-79) to place 43rd.
Before he was a Shocker...Did not participate in high school golf due to no athletics
being offered at Colegio Sidarta, the high school Becker attended...Before
moving to the United States to become a student-athlete, Becker was ranked the
No. 1 junior and No. 2 amateur golfer in Brazil...Won back-to-back Brazilian
Junior Amateur Championships with a 54-hole score of 213 (76-70-67) in 2009 and
a shot a 211 (73-67-71) to win in 2008...Won the Faldo Series Under 17 World
Grand Final by shooting a 219 (76-70-73) in three rounds...Tied for 8th at the
Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship in 2008, posting a 280 mark
after 72 holes (71-73-68-68).
Personal...Rafael
da Silveira Becker was born on April 2, 1991 in Sao Paulo, Brazil...Son of
Oscar and Ondina Becker and younger brother of Paula ... Majoring in International Business and
has his career goal set at getting to the PGA tour...Also recruited by Missouri
State, Tulsa, Southern Florida, Creighton and others...Chose Wichita State
because of Coach Grier Jones' experience.
