Jones
The Shocker basketball newcomer series starts with guards
Jordan Frison and
Desmeon Jones and center
Cyr Malonga.
We discuss how Wichita State coaches communicated their plan for the newcomers during the recruiting process, what Jones is learning from his experienced teammates and why Frison asks a lot of questions. Malonga describes his role as a lob threat and shot-blocker and reveals his affection for the TV show "Suits."
Frison is a 6-foot guard from Memphis. He averaged 16.7 points and 4.1 assists last season at Tennessee-Chattanooga. He made 42 percent of his three-pointers and 82 percent of his foul shots. He spent two seasons at Pittsburg State and earned MIAA Player of the Year honors in 2025.
Desmeon "NuNu" Jones, a 5-11 guard, averaged 12.4 points and 4.8 assists as a freshman at Blinn (Texas) College. He is from Dallas where he played with Shocker teammate
Dillon Battie at Lancaster High School where they won a Class 5A title in 2024.
Malonga is a 6-foot-11 center from Point-Noire Congo. He is a transfer from New Mexico State and also played two seasons at ECU. He started 16 games last season and averaged 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds.
