WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State senior third baseman
Jayson Jones was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region Second Team on Tuesday.
FULL ALL-REGION TEAM
Jones is the first Shocker to earn a spot on the All-Region team since Caden Favors in 2024 and the first position player to do so since Payton Tolle in 2023.
Jones emerged as one of the conference's most feared hitters after transferring to Wichita State from Oklahoma State. He finished tied for second in the league in home runs (15) and RBI (56), fourth in batting average (.355), seventh in slugging percentage (.583), and ninth in OPS (1.013). He led the Shockers with 27 multi-hit games, highlighted by a four-hit effort against Kansas State on April 7, and in multi-RBI games with 16. Jones also put together the seventh-longest hitting streak in program history with hits in 25 consecutive games from February 27-April 7.
Jones also delivered several big games down the stretch as part of Wichita State's postseason push. The native of Savannah, Texas knocked home at least one run in seven of the last eight contests and homered three times in that span, including a blast in the conference tournament against Memphis on May 22. The following day, Jones helped keep Wichita State's season alive with a 3-for-6 game against UAB, scoring three runs and driving in two more.
Jones tied for the team lead with 58 games played and 57 starts, proving to be a weapon against both left and right-handed pitching. He ended the 2026 season hitting .353 against southpaws and .356 against righties.
