KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kinzey Woody hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the seventh to give Wichita State a 5-2 win at Kansas City Wednesday afternoon.
Wichita State (28-15) continued its winning streak, pushing it to nine in a row.
Woody's home run was her 12th of the season, while also drawing a pair of walks.
Kammie Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI to extend her hitting streak to 12. The reigning American Conference Player of the Week
Ausha Moore was intentionally walked twice after hitting an RBI single in the third inning.
Johnna Schroeder reached base twice on a pair of infield singles.
Jade Sanders earned a no decision in the start. She allowed two runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings.
Ava Sliger (8-1) recorded the win in relief, tossing 2.0 hitless and scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Wichita State broke into the scoring column in the top of the third on Moore's RBI single. The Shockers would only plate the one run, stranding a pair on the bases.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Wichita State added a run in the fifth courtesy of Smith's RBI double. The Roos would respond with two runs in the home half of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
In the top of the seventh, Smith started a two-out rally with a single. After Moore was put aboard on her second intentional walk of the game, Woody made the Roos pay. The freshman crushed a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left to give the Shockers a 5-2 win.
