Woody’s Four-Hit Night Propels Shockers to 10th Straight Win

DENTON, Texas – Kinzey Woody continued her hot streak with four hits and four RBIs to lead Wichita State in a 9-2 win at North Texas Friday night at Lovelace Stadium.

Wichita State (30-15, 16-6) maintained its spot in first place, while moving two games up on North Texas (27-22, 14-8).

Woody tied a season high with four hits, going 4-for-4 with two singles, a double, a home run and four RBIs, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Johnna Schroeder went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Aeryn Shuman belted her second home run of the season. Ausha Moore walked twice to go with a double and two runs scored.

Kammie Smith upped her hit streak to 13 with an infield single and an RBI.

Ryley Nihart (14-9) delivered another strong outing in the circle. She has now recorded a complete game win in each of her last six outings. Aside from two solo home runs on the night, Nihart allowed just five hits and one walk.

Three batters into the game, Woody launched her 13th home run of the season – a two-run shot – to give Wichita State an early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Shuman led off the frame with a solo shot to make it 3-0. Woody then added another RBI to her total on a single back up the middle to cap another two-run frame.

The Mean Green broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the third on a solo home run, cutting the lead to 4-1.

A three-spot in the top of the fourth, bumped the Shockers' lead to 7-1. Woody started the scoring with her fourth RBI of the game on a double down the left field line. The final two runs came in on Smith's RBI infield single and a North Texas error.

Schroeder put the run rule into play with a two-run laser in the top of the sixth, making it 9-1, but North Texas avoided the early ending on a two-out solo home run in the home half of the sixth.
