No. 64 Shockers Topple No. 34 Oklahoma State in Thriller

WICHITA, Kan. — Zaid Al Mashni delivered the clinching victory for Wichita State in a 4-3 upset win over No. 34 Oklahoma State on Sunday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

Sunday's victory marked Wichita State's first win over the Cowboys (12-4) since April 3, 1996, and the program's highest-ranked victory since defeating No. 32 Memphis on April 22, 2021. The result also pushed the Shockers (9-7) to their fifth straight win, their longest streak since 2021.

In doubles, the visiting Cowboys struck first with a 6-4 win over Rodrigo Cruz and Ilias Worthington at No. 2 to take the early edge. At No. 3, Alejandro Jacome and Felix Bockelmann-Evans notched a 6-4 victory, and Pablo Roche Alcaya and Al Mashni rallied to win 6-4 at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point for the Shockers.

Heading into singles with the advantage, Oklahoma State quickly zapped the Shockers' early momentum, taking five of six first sets.

The Cowboys earned the first two singles wins, defeating Jacome at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2, and Alcaya at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2, to take a 2-1 lead.

Worthington responded with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win at No. 1 to tie the match at 2-2.

Later, Cruz bounced back from a first-set defeat, storming back to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 to give the Shockers a 3-2 advantage.

At No. 5, Luke Bracks fell short of a come-from-behind clinch, dropping a three-set battle, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, tying the match at 3-3.

With the match coming down to No. 2 singles, Al Mashni delivered the clinch for the Shockers, recovering from a first-set tiebreak loss to win 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 6-4 and seal the top-40 win for Wichita State. It was his second consecutive match-clinching victory.
