Shockers Stifled by Owls in Series Finale

WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State fell 2-1 to Florida Atlantic in a windy series finale Sunday at Wilkins Stadium.

The Shockers (18-11, 6-3) saw their seven-game winning streak snapped with the loss to Florida Atlantic (20-11, 3-5), marking their first defeat since March 8 against East Carolina.

In the bottom of the first inning, Trinity Allen scored the game's first run, coming home from third on an error by Florida Atlantic.

The Owls tied the game in the top of the third inning with a solo home run.

Neither team scored or threatened in the fourth or fifth innings, but the Owls scratched across a run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly.

Wichita State put two runners on in the bottom half of the inning, but Florida Atlantic turned a double play to escape the jam and maintain a 2-1 lead.

Down to its final three outs, Wichita State put two runners on base, but was unable to bring either home.

In the defensive battle, Ryley Nihart (7-7) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three.

Only Kinzey Woody and Johnna Schroeder recorded hits for Wichita State, though seven Shockers reached base via walks and hit-by-pitches.
