CHARLOTTE, N.C. — No. 64 Wichita State used two late three-set singles wins to defeat No. 56 Charlotte, 4-2, on Saturday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

The Shockers (12-7) extended their winning streak to eight matches with the victory over Charlotte (10-5). The streak is the longest for Wichita State since the 2008 season, when it won 10 in a row. The victory over Charlotte was also the Shockers' third ranked win of the season.

In doubles, Wichita State struck first, as
Alejandro Jacome and
Felix Bockelmann-Evans earned a 6-1 win at No. 3. The 49ers responded with a 6-2 win over
Zaid Al Mashni and
Pablo Roche Alcaya at No. 1, sending the doubles point to be decided at No. 2.

Tied 3-3 at No. 2,
Ilias Worthington and
Rodrigo Cruz won three consecutive games to secure a 6-3 victory and the doubles point for Wichita State.

In singles, Charlotte gained momentum by taking four first sets.

Amir Milushev, one of two Shockers to win his opening set, earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 to give Wichita State a 2-0 lead.

Charlotte answered with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Cruz at No. 5 to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The 49ers tied the match soon after with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Worthington.

Tied at 2-2, the remaining three singles matches all went to third sets, with each team needing two wins to clinch the match.

At No. 6,
Luke Bracks completed a three-set, come-from-behind victory, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to put the Shockers back in front.

Needing one more point, Alcaya rebounded from his doubles loss to earn a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory at No. 3, clinching the match for Wichita State.
