IRVING, Texas – After taking down the nation's No. 46-ranked singles player, Wichita State's
Xin Tong Wang was named the American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Wang had an excellent opening week on the court for Wichita State. She began the week by clinching the doubles point with partner
Giorgia Roselli against Texas State on Friday. On Monday, Wang defeated No. 46-ranked Sophie Llewellyn 6-4, 6-3Â to help the Shockers to a 4-2 home victory over the SMU Mustangs. It marked Wichita State's first win over SMU since 2019.Â
Â
Competing at the No. 1 position in three singles matches on the week, Wang did not lose a set. Her performance included the win over No. 46 Llewellyn and taking the first set against her opponent from No. 6 Oklahoma.
Â
For Wang, it is her third American Conference Player of the Week honor of her career and sixth conference award overall. She is a two-time all-conference selection and was the American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Month for September.
Â
Wang and Wichita State continue their season on Friday, Jan. 23, against No. 10 Oklahoma State in the semifinal of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Lubbock Regional.
