COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Wichita State (5-2) earned its second sweep of the day with a 3-0 win over host Tennessee Tech (2-5) at the Golden Eagle Invitational. The Shockers won by scores of 25-4, 25-10 and 25-17.
The four points allowed in the first set tied the program record for fewest points in a set. The Shockers also held Evansville to four points on Nov. 21, 2015.
Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 13 kills, while
Brooklyn Leggett added 11 kills and hit .786.
Jordan Heatherly had 34 assists, six kills, six digs and four service aces, while
Katie Galligan finished with 11 digs.
The Shockers finished with nine service aces in the match and hit .451 as a team, while holding the Golden Eagles to a .039 hitting percentage.
 WSU used a 10-0 run behind the serving of
Grace Hett to take an early 12-1 lead in the first set. The Shockers closed out the set on a 13-2 run to win 25-4. WSU finished with 16 kills in the set and hit .560.
The Shockers raced out to a 7-3 advantage in the second set and used a 10-0 run to push the lead to 18-5. A kill by
Emerson Wilford and a Golden Eagle hitting error sealed the 25-10 win for the Shocks.
In the third set, the Shockers again took an early lead 12-4, but the Golden Eagles fought back to pull within two at 16-14. A
Maddie Wilson kill and service ace and five kills from Dunning down the stretch gave the Shockers the 25-17 win.
The Shockers wrap up the Golden Eagle Invitational against Samford at 11 a.m. CT on Fri., Sept. 12.
