MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The eighth-seeded Wichita State men's tennis team knocked out the ninth-seeded UAB Blazers in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon at Leftwich Tennis Center.

The win for the Shockers was the first for Wichita State at the AAC Championship in the
Darragh Glavin era.

In doubles, Wichita State took advantage with a 6-3 win by
Arenui Luethi and
Alejandro Jacome at court one and
Luke Bracks and
Vanja Hodzic finished off the doubles point with a 6-4 win at court three.

In singles, WSU pressed the advantage by taking the first on five of six singles courts.

Jacome was the first to strike in singles, winning 6-3, 6-1 at court two to put the Shockers up 2-0.

Soon after, Bracks added a big win at court six, 6-0, 7-5 to give the Shockers a 3-0 advantage.Â

Hodzic finished off the dominant victory for Wichita State with a 6-3, 6-1 win at court one, sending the Shockers into the AAC Quarterfinals.

Next up, the Shockers have a tough test, as they will face top-seeded, No. 23 South Florida at 2:00 PM at Leftwich Tennis Center.
