Roadrunners Race Past Shockers in Game Two

WICHITA, Kan – Eight early runs for UTSA spelled doom for the Shockers in game two of the weekend series, as Wichita State fell 16-8 to the visiting Roadrunners on Saturday at Eck Stadium.

It didn't take long for the Roadrunner bats to get going against Shocker starter Aaron Arnold, as the visitors put up four runs on three hits in the top of the first.

UTSA added to their advantage in the second with a pair of runs scoring on a double down the line, extending their lead to 6-0 and another two 'Runners reached home in the third, giving them an 8-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, WSU broke their zero on the scoreboard when Josh Livingston scored on an RBI groundout to make the score 8-1.

UTSA responded to the Shocker run with five of their own in the fifth, two scoring on a double and three more scoring on a three-run home run, giving the Roadrunners a 13-1 lead.

In the bottom half, Kam Durnin breathed some life into the Shocker offense with a three-run shot to centerfield, making it a 13-4 game. Lane Haworth followed up with a solo homer to center, marking the first time the Shockers have hit back-to-back homers in a game this season.

UTSA added a run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh, making it a nine-run deficit again for WSU at 14-5.

Josh Livingston joined in on the home run fun for the Black and Yellow in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run liftoff to left to make it a 14-7 game.

The Roadrunners got the two runs back in the top of the eighth, extending their lead to 16-7.

In the bottom of the eighth, Gannon Snyder sprinted home on an error to add another run for the Shockers.

Neither scored in the ninth, ending the game with a 16-8 decision for UTSA.

Arnold (4-2) suffered the loss for Wichita State.

Four Shockers, Camden Johnson, Livingston, Rogers, and Durnin all recorded two hits in the game. Durnin, Livingston, and Haworth recorded all of the game's RBIs for WSU.

Next up, the Shockers wrap up the series with UTSA on Sunday at Eck Stadium at 1:00 PM.
