Shockers Fall to Roadrunner Rally

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA scored four unanswered runs to rally past Wichita State on Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field, beating the Shockers 8-7.

UTSA struck first in game two, working the opening run across with a bloop RBI single to left, taking an early 1-0 lead. The 'Runners added another run with some heads-up base running to steal home and then followed that with an RBI single off the batter's eye in centerfield to take a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Gabby Scott singled and later scored on a base hit from Krystin Nelson. Then, Brookelyn Livanec singled, driving Ellee Eck home to make it a 3-2 game. After Lauren Lucas singled, Taylor Sedlacek drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game 3-3. Camryn Compton nearly hit a two-out grand slam right after, but her ball was caught just in front of the wall.

After a scoreless inning in relief from Alex Aguilar, Eck speared an RBI double into left-center field, giving the Shockers a 4-3 lead. UTSA would tie the game immediately afterward, putting together three singles to score a run and tie the game 4-4 through three innings.

In the fourth, the Shocker bats got back to work as Lucas sent the first pitch of the inning over the fence in left to give WSU the lead back at 5-4. Later, Jodie Epperson squeaked a ball just over the wall in centerfield for a two-run homer to put Wichita State up 7-4.

The Roadrunners again responded, hitting a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the fourth, knocking Aguilar out of the game.

UTSA cut the deficit again, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-6.

In the bottom of the sixth, UTSA completed the rally with a two-RBI single up the middle, taking an 8-7 lead. The Shockers went scoreless in the seventh, giving UTSA the 8-7 win.

Four Shockers recorded two hits in the game while Sedlacek and Nelson each reached based three times.
