Â
The Shockers (8-14, 1-1) took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning thanks to a run-scoring wild pitch in the second and a two-out, two-run triple from
Jaden Gustafson in the third, but could not slow down the Tulane attack in the fourth. The combination of starter
Brady Hamilton and reliever
Jace Miner hit four Green Wave batters, walked another with the bases loaded, and eventually allowed a grand slam to Jackson Linn that turned the 3-0 lead into an 8-3 deficit.
Â
Tulane (16-7, 1-1) got just one hit from the fourth inning on thanks to some good work from the Shocker bullpen, which got scoreless appearances from
Caleb Anderson,
Hunter Holmes,
Karsen Richard and
Colton Vercoe.
Â
Wichita State chipped into the deficit with a
Josh Livingston solo home run in the fifth and two unearned runs in the sixth. The sixth inning rally featured two batters reaching on catcher's interference, two walks and two wild pitches, eventually trimming Tulane's advantage to 8-6.
