BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wichita State men's tennis team escaped the UAB Blazers on Tuesday afternoon at Hoover Met Tennis Courts, winning 4-1.

The Shockers (7-8) have now won back-to-back matches and recorded a win on the same day they climbed into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top 75 for the first time since 2022.

Doubles was incredibly tight, with the teams splitting 7-5 decisions on courts two and three, leaving WSU's
Alejandro Jacome and
Arenui Luethi to decide doubles at court one.

It took heading to a tiebreak, but the Shockers got done what they couldn't do on Sunday against Charlotte, winning the break 7-3 to clinch doubles for the Shockers.

Singles remained just as tight as doubles, with each team snagging a first set on three of the six singles courts.

Wichita State's
Ilias Worthington was the first to punch a victory ticket, winning 6-3, 6-4 at court four to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead.

Next, WSU's Jacome fell 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at court two, cutting it back to a one-point difference on the scoreboard.

Soon after,
Kristof Minarik picked up a huge 7-6 (6), 6-4 win at court one to put WSU up 3-1 and in striking distance of the win.

Amir Milushev would be the one to strike, winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to clinch and end the match with a 4-1 Shocker victory.

Next up, the Shockers travel to San Diego, Calif., to play San Diego State on March 21 at 1:00 PM.
