NEW ORLEANS – The No. 67 ranked Wichita State women's tennis team picked up a statement 4-1 win over the No. 66 Princeton Tigers on Friday afternoon at City Park Tennis Center.

The Shockers (8-6) have now won back-to-back matches and four of their last five, while Princeton (7-7) saw their losing streak extend to three matches with the loss.

"It was a really solid team win today," Head Coach
Colin Foster said. "Our energy was great on all courts today."

In doubles, each side secured a 6-1 win to open play with WSU's
Xin Tong Wang and
Giorgia Roselli winning at court one and
Anne Knuettel and
Clara Whitaker falling at court three, sending doubles to be decided at court three.

After splitting the first six games 3-3,
Kristina Kudryavtseva and
Theodora Chantava took control, winning the final three games of the match to win 6-3 and secure a Shocker victory in doubles.

"In doubles, we played with great energy," said Foster. "The third doubles spot has been a little difficult lately, but Clara and Anne found ways to bring great energy today that helped the top two courts."

In singles, the Shockers grabbed control early on, winning first sets on five of six courts.

Wang struck first, earning her second win of the day, a 6-0, 6-2 win on court one to put the Shockers up 2-0. Her doubles partner Roselli added on soon after, winning 6-1, 6-4 at court two to push WSU to the brink of victory.

Princeton didn't go down easy, beating Kudryavtseva 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at court three, making the match score 3-1.Â

The Tigers continued to threaten a comeback, forcing two third sets, but
Tatyana Nikolenko slammed the door on Princeton, winning 6-2, 7-6 (4), to clinch and end the match with a 4-1 win for Wichita State.Â

"In singles, we got a bunch of early leads and Xin Tong and Giorgia really played well, especially when their opponents raised their level in their second sets," said Foster. "Tatyana did well to find a way to finish in two sets and get the clinch."Â
Next up, the Shockers face No. 61 Tulane on Saturday at 1:00 PM CT in New Orleans.
