NEW ORLEANS – The No. 67 ranked Wichita State women's tennis team ended their week-long trip to Louisiana with a victory over No. 61 Tulane, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at City Park Tennis Center.
With the win, the Shockers (9-6) have won three in a row and secured a perfect 3-0 record in their week-long trip to Louisiana.
"The team really embraced the challenge today," Head Coach
Colin Foster said. "It's been a total team effort this trip and we know that contributions will come from everywhere in the lineup."
In doubles,
Xin Tong Wang and
Giorgia Roselli gave the Shockers the early advantage with a crushing 6-2 win at court one to open play.
Anne Knuettel and
Tatyana Nikolenko closed out a doubles victory with a 6-4 win at court three, giving WSU the early lead.
In singles, the fight tightened up, with WSU taking first sets on four singles courts and Tulane taking two.
Kristina Kudryavtseva was the first to win, emerging victorious in a 6-4, 6-4 decision, putting Wichita State up 2-0.
Nikolenko made it a 3-0 score with a 6-1, 7-6 (6) victory, putting all the pressure on the Green Wave.
Chantava finished off the win for the Shockers with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, clinching and ending the match with a 4-0 victory for Wichita State.
"Getting wins from third doubles and Kristina was for a couple spots that have struggled lately," Foster said. "As long as we play with purpose, belief, and energy, we'll keep getting stronger."
Next up, the Shockers travel to Tampa, Fla., to take on South Florida at 9:00 AM CT on March 19.
