RUSTON, La. – A rally in doubles and gritty singles play powered the Wichita State women's tennis team to a 4-1 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon at LA Tech Tennis Center.

The Shockers (7-6) have won three of their last four matches, and LA Tech (10-6) has lost four of their last five.

In doubles, the hometown Bulldogs raced out to 4-1 leads on court one and three, but the Shockers would battle back, with
Kristina Kudryavtseva and
Theodora Chantava winning 6-3 at court two, earning their eighth win of the year paired together and sixth in a row.

Sati Aubakirova and
Tatyana Nikolenko fought hard to rally, pulling within 5-4 of La Tech at court three, but ultimately fell 6-4, leaving
Xin Tong Wang and
Giorgia Roselli to decide doubles at court one.

Wang and Roselli put together a fantastic rally, turning a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead that they finished off to win 6-4 and clinch the doubles point for Wichita State.

In singles, the fight remained strong as both teams took first sets on three courts.

WSU's Chantava was the first to finish, winning 6-4, 6-1 at court four to put the Shockers up 2-0.

Kudryavtseva was downed soon after by her Bulldog opponent at court two, 6-4, 6-1, making the match score 2-1.

Roselli answered the LA Tech victory by closing out her match 6-4, 6-0 at court three, putting WSU up 3-1.

Nikolenko secured victory for the Black and Yellow with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph at court five, clinching and ending the match with a 4-1 Shocker victory.
