NORMAN, Okla. – Wichita State captured a 15-4 win in five innings over Bowling Green in an error-filled affair on Saturday afternoon at Love's Field.
Â
After Shocker starter
Ava Sliger struck out the game's first two batters, the Falcons opened the scoring, capitalizing on an error to bring a runner home with an RBI single in the top of the first.
Â
It didn't take long for the Shockers to respond as back-to-back walks allowed
Jodie Epperson to drive in
Ellee Eck to tie the game at 1-1. The Shockers then loaded the bases with nobody out but couldn't bring anyone home to break the tie.
Â
After a scoreless inning from Sliger, the Shockers broke the tie in the bottom half with
Caroline Tallent scoring on an error, then, Eck drove in
Krystin Nelson to give the Shockers a 3-1 lead. Later, Epperson brought Eck home for the second time in the game, tallying her second RBI to take a 4-1 lead. The Shockers weren't done doing damage as
Sami Hood drove in another run with a bunt single and
Mila Seaton scampered home on an error to make it a 6-1 lead for Wichita State through two innings.
Â
In the third, Bowling Green capitalized on another two-out error, scoring three runs to cut its deficit to 6-4.Â
Â
In the bottom half, the Shockers answered, rallying with two outs to score four runs courtesy of doubles from Hood,
Taylor Sedlacek and
Catelyn Beckerley to take a 10-4 lead into the fourth.
Â
After a scoreless inning from
Ryley Nihart, the Shockers piled up runs in the inning, bringing five runs home. Nelson scored on a fielder's choice and Eck scored shortly after on a stolen base. Later, Sedlacek ripped an RBI double to left to score pinch-runner
Morgan Lloyd and Hood blasted a two-run homer to dead center to cap off the inning with WSU up 15-4.Â
Â
In the fifth, Nihart worked around a pair of fielding errors to end the inning without allowing a run, ending the game with a 15-4 Shocker victory.
Â
Hood was a stellar 3-for-4 on the day with four RBIs. Sliger earned her first collegiate win allowing no earned runs in her 3.0 innings of work.
Â
The teams combined for eight errors in the game with the Shockers recording five. The five errors tied for the fifth-most in program history.
