WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team dominated across the board in their opener on their way to a 6-1 win over the Omaha Mavericks at Genesis Rock Road on Saturday afternoon.

The win for the Shockers is their first of the year, improving to 1-2 on the year. Omaha drops to 1-3 with the loss.

Doubles was highly competitive early on, but some solid, mid-set play across the board gave the Shockers their first doubles point of the season. Freshmen
Zaid Al Mashni and
Luca Mindrut picked up their first doubles dual wins of their careers with a 6-3 win at court three. The standout Shocker pair of
Alejandro Jacome and
Kristof Minarik clinched the point and improved to 3-0 on the year with a 6-4 win at court one.

In singles, the Shockers dominated early, winning the first set on each of all six courts, giving them a huge boost of momentum.

Jacome broke through first with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win at court three to make it 2-0.

Mindrut earned his second win of the day, and first career singles win in duals with a 6-0, 6-2 win at court six.

Minarik delivered the clinch with a 6-3, 6-2 win at court two. His first singles win of the season.

Playing the match out, Worthington added to the margin with a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (9) win at court four. His first career singles win in a dual match.

Hodzic joined in on the fun with a thrilling, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win at court one. His first singles win playing at line one.

Omaha's lone point came via a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (8) win over Al Mashni at court five.
