GREENVILLE, N.C. – Wichita State secured its first conference series of the season with a 6-5 win at East Carolina Saturday afternoon.
Wichita State (12-10, 3-2) was able to scratch out a win despite surrendering 11 hits. The Pirates stranded 10 runners on base.
Alison (3-4) picked up the win in 4.1 innings.
Alex Aguilar tossed 1.2 innings of relief and
Chloe Barber recorded her second save of the weekend, third this season, to hold off the Pirates.
Taylor Sedlacek continued her strong weekend, going 3-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBI. Her three hits tied a career high.
CC Wong doubled twice and scored twice.
Addison Barnard homered for the ninth time this season and
Caroline Tallent added two RBI and a single.
For the second straight game Wichita State opened the scoring on a Sedlacek home run. After belting a grand slam yesterday, Sedlacek only drove in three on this first inning blast.
ECU was able to scratch out two runs in its first inning at bat on a wild pitch and RBI single.
After a scoreless second, Wichita State tacked on two more in the third on Barnard's solo home run and Tallent's RBI single. Tallent added her second RBI of the day in the top of the fifth on a sac fly.
The Pirates cut the margin to one in the sixth on a two-run single with two outs.
Barber allowed two baserunners on a single and a walk in the bottom of the seventh to add a little extra drama, but recorded the final out on a swinging strikeout.
