Kidane, Bertry Lead Shockers at NCAA Midwest Regional

PEORIA, Ill. – Yared Kidane and Sarah Bertry led the Shockers in their final race of the season at the NCAA Midwest Regional Friday morning at Newman Golf Course.
 
In his first career 10K race, redshirt-junior Kidane ran 30:19.5 to finish 34th, leading the Wichita State men to a 14th-place team finish, their fifth-straight top-15 regional team finish.
 
Senior Adrian Diaz Lopez finished not far behind in 40th with a time of 30:29.52, and redshirt-junior Cesar Ramirez (92nd; 31:09.1), redshirt-freshman Colin Graham (112th; 31:31.9), and redshirt-sophomore Aidan Reyna (129th; 31:53.5) rounded out the scoring for the Shocker men.
 
Redshirt-junior Riley Vandaveer (148th; 32:14.9) and redshirt-freshman Ian Schram (33:02.2) were the sixth and seventh Shockers to cross the line.
 
Senior Sarah Bertry clocked her first career sub-21 minute 6K time in her final collegiate cross country race, running 20:59.0 to take 59th and lead the Shocker women to a 24th-place team finish.
 
Freshman Faith Ekart was the next Shocker across the line, finishing 133rd with a time of 22:01.6, and senior Jenna Muma (139th; 22:10.0), sophomore Isabelle Hartnett (158th; 22:26.2), and redshirt-sophomore Amanda Treptow (174th; 22:38.0) completed the scoring five.
 
Junior Lea Jerkovic (183rd; 22:52.1) and freshman Emily See (211th; 23:19.7) were the sixth and seventh finishers for Wichita State.
 
The NCAA Midwest Regional wraps up the 2024 cross country season for the Shockers as they look ahead to the 2024-25 indoor track and field season, beginning with the Shocker Multi and Intrasquad from Dec. 4-6, followed by the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular on Jan. 17.
