WICHITA – Fourth quarter woes returned for the Shockers as Florida Atlantic came away with its first American Athletic Conference win, 63-56, Saturday in Charles Koch Arena.
Â
"We continued the vein of playing three pretty good quarters and then having one bad quarter," head coach
Terry Nooner said. "Just couldn't buy a bucket in the fourth quarter."
Â
Wichita State (6-15, 2-7 AAC) was shooting 17-for-34 (.500) through the first three quarters and was down by just one before shooting 3-for-20 (.150) in the fourth quarter, allowing FAU (6-13, 1-7 AAC) to extend its lead to seven.

Â
Wichita State gave up only 12 turnovers and out-rebounded the Owls 38-34, but too many missed wide-open shots created problems for the Shockers.
Â
"They were double teaming Dani[ela Abies] every single time, and she was making the right play and passing it out to the open man, and we were wide open," Nooner said. "We just needed a few of those baskets to go to try to put some game pressure on them."
Â
The Shockers shot just 5-for-23 (.217) from three with all five coming from
Salese Blow and
Raissa Nsabua.
Â
Blow led Wichita State for the seventh time this season with 16 points, and

th time this season, Abies led the team in rebounding with 11 but was held to just four points after scoring 23 in the last game against UAB.

Â
The Owls scored 15 points off 12 turnovers while Wichita State only capitalized with six points off 12 turnovers. FAU also scored eight second-chance points with just nine offensive rebounds, while the Shockers tallied 15 offensive rebounds and only scored six second-chance points.
Â
Wichita State opened the game on a 5-0 run as Blow hit one of her three threes on the Shockers' first possession.
Â
The Owls went on an 8-0 run to take over the lead and didn't give it up until halfway through the third quarter.
Â
FAU's Mya Perry hit a three in the final minute of the third quarter regain the lead.
Â
The Owls hit two fourth-quarter threes in six tries, while the Shockers went 1-for-12 from three, and the Shocker offense just couldn't finish out the game.
