OMAHA, Neb. – The Wichita State women's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season with a 5-2 win on the road against the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday.

The Shockers (1-1) are now 32-2 all-time against Creighton (0-1) and have won 19 consecutive matches over the Bluejays.

The Shockers dominated in doubles, taking a sweeping victory at courts two and three.
Theodora Chantava and
Giorgia Roselli struck first with a 6-1 win at court three.
Xin Tong Wang and
Natsumi Kurahashi won shortly after at court two 6-1.

"We played great doubles which always sets the tone for the match," said Head Coach
Colin Foster. "Overall, it was a very complete performance."

Chantava breezed to victory with a sweeping win at #6 singles to make it 2-0 Shockers.Â

Kristina Kudryavtseva made it 3-0 with a dominant win of her own, 6-0, 6-1 at court three.

The Shockers clinched the match with victories by Kurahashi and
Jessica Anzo at courts two and five to make it 5-0 Shockers.
Â
Creighton would pick up points at courts one and four with a pair of three-set victories to make the final score 5-2.

"We played with the right mentality and positive competition energy on all six courts," Foster said. "If those things continue to be consistent, these results will take care of themselves."

The women's tennis team has a quick turnaround, as they will play Drake tomorrow at 1:00 PM in Des Moines.Â
