DES MOINES, Iowa – The Shocker women's tennis team collected their second win in as many days with a confident 5-2 victory over the Drake Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

The Shockers (2-1) locked up the match victory with a doubles point and victories at singles courts three, four, five, and six. The Shockers are now 32-23 all-time versus the Bulldogs (0-2) and are 12-11 when playing at Drake.Â

The duo of
Giorgia Roselli and
Theodora Chantava picked up their second straight doubles victory with a 6-0 win at court three to start the match.
Kristina Kudryavtseva and
Anne Knuettel clinched the doubles point for WSU with a 6-4 victory at court one.

Head Coach
Colin Foster was highly impressed with his doubles pairings.

"Doubles was great energy today," said Foster. "For Anne to play at #1 doubles in her first doubles match with us, she did great. Giorgia and Theodora have a great chemistry and energy and it lifts the team in doubles and into singles."Â

The freshman Knuettel continued her impressive day by claiming the first singles point of the afternoon with a resounding 6-0, 6-0 victory at court three, making it 2-0 Shockers.

"Anne responded well today after a tough defeat yesterday," Foster said. "She was locked in from the first ball to the last."

Drake answered back with a victory over Kurahashi at #1 singles, making it 2-1.

Chantava brought the Shockers closer to a match victory with a win at court six, 6-1, 6-3.

Shortly after, Roselli would clinch the match for the Shockers at court five with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Jessica Anzo would add to the Shocker score with a tight 6-4, 6-4 win at court four.

The Bulldogs concluded the match with a victory over Kudryavtseva at court two, ending the match 5-2 in favor of the Shockers.

"In singles, we are competing with great togetherness, which is difficult in an individual sport," said Foster. "We'll continue to build off these results."

The Shockers will now return home for their first home contest of the season where they will face the Kansas State Wildcats at the Wichita Country Club on January 26 at 4:00 PM.
