Shockers Fall to Tulsa on the Road

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa took the lead early and never looked back as they blew out the Shockers, 93-70, Saturday afternoon in the Reynolds Center.
 
The Golden Hurricane (14-5, 4-2 AAC) had four players finish in double figures with Temira Poindexter leading the way with a career-high 31 points. Poindexter shot 11-for-18 from the field and 6-for-12 from three and grabbed eight rebounds.
 
Daniela Abies led the Shockers (6-13, 2-5 AAC) with her fourth double-double of the season, tallying 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Tre'Zure Jobe (16), Salese Blow (12) and Aniya Bell (10) also finished in double figures.
 
Sierra Morrow recorded two blocks, and Jobe dished out a game-high tying six assists. Morrow scored six points for the Shockers after going on a three-game scoring drought.
 
The Golden Hurricane out-rebounded Wichita State 46-31 and scored 16 second-chance points.
 
Tulsa hit 14 three pointers, the most by any Shocker opponent this season, shooting 46.7 percent from behind the arc and 50 percent from the field.
 
The Golden Hurricane jumped out to a seven-point lead in the first three minutes of the game and increased their advantage to 15 by the end of the first quarter, shooting 5-for-10 from three in the first 10 minutes.
 
Tulsa's threes kept coming in the second quarter, but Jobe scored 15 of her 16 points before half to try to stop the bleeding for the Shockers.
 
Wichita State tried to cut into Tulsa's 23-point lead coming out of halftime, and five points apiece from Bell and Jayla Murray helped cut the deficit to 16, but the Golden Hurricane quickly stretched it back to 23 to end the third quarter.
 
The Shockers won the fourth quarter 20-18, but Tulsa comfortably came away with their fourth conference win.
 
Wichita State returns to The Roundhouse for two-straight home games against UAB and Florida Atlantic Thursday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 27.
