NORMAN, Okla. – The Wichita State women's team fell on the road to the #13 ranked Oklahoma Sooners 1-6 to start the 2024 campaign on Friday afternoon.

Oklahoma put together an impressive start in doubles, taking victories on courts one and two 6-0 and 6-3 to clinch the doubles point.

The Sooners clinched the match win after victories on courts three, four, and six to take the decisive 4-0 advantage. OU pushed the margin to 5-0 with a defeat of
Xin Tong Wang at court one.

OU would gain a 6-0 advantage with a narrow victory over
Natsumi Kurahashi on court two.

Shocker freshman
Anne Knuettel collected the Shockers lone point with a win at court No. 5 after winning a ten-point tiebreaker to close out the match.

The Sooners have now won 37 consecutive home matches and have claimed victory in five consecutive matches over the Shockers.

The Shockers are now 10-5 in season-opening matches under
Colin Foster and are 0-2 in season-openers against the Sooners over that same time.

The women's tennis team will get a full week away from match action, before hitting the road to take on the Creighton Bluejays at 3:00 PM on January 20, followed by a match the next day at Drake at 1:00 PM.Â
