BOWLING GREEN, Fla. – The Wichita State men's golf team opened the 2023-24 season with a 6th place finish at the Allstate Streamsong Invitational this week. A pair of Shockers finished in the tournament's top-20.
The Shockers put together a team score of 861 with rounds of 281, 288, and 293, 14-under par and 6th place in the team standings. Kennesaw State took home the team title, finishing 31-under par.
Blake Lorenz and
Lucas Scheufler were the top Shockers, finishing five-under par (213) and tied for 11th overall.
The Shockers started the tournament blazing hot, holding the top spot for a majority of the first 18-holes, but some trouble late on the back 9 set the team back, leading to the Shockers ending day one in fourth place with a score of 281 and 11 strokes under as a team.
Sokolosky and Lorenz posted the best Shocker scores on the day, finishing tied for 7th with a score of -4. Sokolosky posted the lone eagle on the day for the Shockers and notched 15 pars, the second most of any golfer in the tournament on day one. Lorenz posted three birdies and did not record a bogey or worse on any hole.
Scheufler climbed all the way to the top spot as an individual on day one, achieving a score of -5 before ultimately finishing -3 and tied for 10th.

Michael Winslow finished day one at even par and +1 respectively.

Day two early on was not kind to the Shockers as some early bogeys saw the team fall out of the tournament top 5 and a score as high as -9. Despite this, the team would manage to put together a terrific rally across the final six holes that pulled the Shockers back into 5th place at 15-under par.
Winslow had the best round of any Shocker, carding a four-under par finish to bring his score for the tournament to -3
Sokolosky recovered from two early double bogeys to finish even on the day, keeping his tournament score at -4.

Day three saw the Shockers come out on fire, climbing early into a tie for 3rd after Lorenz fired off six birdies across the first seven holes of the day and he climbed as high as 4th place on the individual standings. The team could not keep up the good start, as a trio of double bogeys soon after and bogey trouble on the back nine set the Shockers up for sixth place finish in their season opening tournament.
