OZARK, Mo. -Â Led by a career-best performance from
Blake Lorenz and four other Shockers in the top 30, the Wichita State men's golf team logged a second place finish at the Missouri State Intercollegiate at Millwood Golf Club.
Oral Roberts erased a late deficit to take the team title (291-278-285--854, +2), besting the Shockers (286-279-291--856, +4) by two strokes. The Golden Eagles Brandon Hoff was individual medalist with a five-under, 208.
Lorenz (71-69-71--211, -2) ended the competition in a tie for third, his best performance as a Shocker. The junior led the field with a 4.22 average on par-5s, shooting seven-under on those holes for the tournament. His 12 birdies were tied for the second-most among all participants.
Michael Winslow (69-72-75--216, +3) and
Aston Castillo (73-70-73--216, +3) tied for 14th with solid performances. Winslow did most of his damage on par-4s, with a 4.03 average that ranked seventh-best in the field. Castillo was the only competitor with multiple eagles in the tournament, both on the par-5 second in rounds one and two.
JT Pittman (75-68-75--218, +5) checked in with a tie for 21st, highlighted by a second round 68 that featured five birdies.
Lucas Scheufler (73-75-72--220, +7) tied for 26th, and
Dawson Lewis (73-76-75--224, +11) tied for 41st competing as an individual.
