Second Half Struggles Allow Bears to Slip Past Shockers, 72-65

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Wichita State dropped its third-straight game, falling 72-65 to Missouri State Saturday afternoon in Great Southern Bank Arena.
 
Lacy Stokes led the Bears (4-3) with 21 points as the Shockers dropped to 4-7, having yet to win a true road game.
 
Daniela Abies tied her career high and tied with Salese Blow for a team-high 18 points. Abies also led the team in rebounding with six.
 
Wichita State scored its most first-half points since its Nov. 20 win over Omaha and second-most all season, claiming a 39-33 lead at halftime.
 
The Shockers forced 15 first-half turnovers and capitalized with 22 points off turnovers.
 
Blow created a spark off the bench with 10 points in four minutes in the second quarter as she and Abies headed into halftime in double figures with Abies leading the scoring with 12 points.
 
The Bears flipped the script in the second half, causing 13 Shocker turnovers and scoring 16 points off those turnovers.
 
The Shockers' third-quarter struggles continued as they recorded their lowest-scoring period in the third quarter for the seventh time this season with just nine points.
 
Missouri State went on a 6-0 run to start the second half, tying the game at 39-all. The Shockers scored their first points of the third quarter courtesy of Jobe's first three pointer of the game with 6:45 left in the quarter.
 
The Shockers committed three turnovers in 2 minutes and 24 seconds as the Bears went on an 8-0 run to take over the lead and finish the quarter up seven.
 
Wichita State opened the final quarter with a 7-0 run to tie the game back up at 55-55, but Stokes scored 10 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter to put the Bears back in front.
 
The Shockers shot 8-for-23 (.348) in the second half compared to 17-for-25 (.680) in the first half and committed 25 total turnovers.
 
The Bears out-rebounded Wichita State 32-21, the Shockers' worst rebounding margin since their Nov. 25 loss to Dayton.
 
The Shockers shot 52% from the field, their second-highest field goal percentage of the season.
 
Wichita State returns to Charles Koch Arena to play its final non-conference game against Oral Roberts in front of its home crown Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.
