WICHITA, Kan. – Addison Barnard hit two more home runs in a wire-to-wire 9-1 run-rule of Kansas Wednesday night at Wilkins Stadium.
Wichita State (25-13) upped its win streak to five in a row and picked up its 10th win of the season via the run-rule.
One of the nation's premiere home run hitting teams in the country, Wichita State added four more to its season total, bringing it to 82. After hitting two of the four, Barnard vaulted back into the NCAA lead with 22 on the season. It's her second straight game with two homers. She also tied her own single season home run record of 22, which she set a season ago.
Sydney McKinney notched another multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Neleigh Herring and
Jessica Garcia added the other home runs, both solo shots.
Erin McDonald (6-7) settled in after giving up a home run and a double in the second inning. She threw a complete game, allowing just the two hits and striking out seven.
It didn't take long for the fireworks to go off, as Wichita State jumped out to 2-0 lead just two batters into the game thanks to a leadoff walk by McKinney and Barnard's first of two home runs on the night.
Kansas saw its only success come in the top of the second, where they briefly cut the lead to 2-1 behind a solo home run.
Garcia made it 3-1 in the bottom of the second with her third home run of the season. In the bottom of the third, Barnard went yard with her second two-run home run and then Herring followed with an opposite field shot a few batters later.
In the bottom of the fourth Wichita State opened a three-run inning behind a McKinney RBI single and two-base throwing error. A sac fly from Barnard and
Zoe Jones scoring on a wild pitch, put the mercy rule in play.
