STILLWATER, Okla. – For the second straight day Wichita State defeated Kansas City (10-5), but fell to No. 10 Oklahoma State (10-2) in five innings to wrap up the OSU Mizuno Classic.
Game 1 vs. Kansas City
Sydney McKinney was 4-for-4 for the second straight game against Kansas City, adding a double, home run and two RBI.
Lauren Lucas went 2-for-4 with a home run and
Jessica Garcia chipped in a double and single.
Kenzie Schopfer threw 4.0 innings in the start, allowing four runs on five hits.
Erin McDonald pitched 3.0 innings in relief. She walked four and gave up two hits.
Kansas City grabbed an early lead behind an RBI double and RBI single in the top of the first.
Wichita State even it up at 2-2 in the bottom of the second on a Kansas City throwing error and a McKinney RBI single.
With two outs in the top of the fourth, Kansas City regained the lead on a two-run home run. The Shockers got a run back in the home half on McKinney's eighth home run of the season, a solo shot to dead center.
The bottom of the fifth turned the tide. Behind a five-run inning, Wichita State grabbed its first lead, 8-4. A leadoff solo home run from
Zoe Jones set the tone, tying the game at 4-4. With two runners in scoring position,
Lauren Mills delivered the go-ahead runs on a two-run single to left-center. The very next batter,
Cassie Passwaters, dropped a pinch-hit two-run home run on the Roos.
Back-to-back home runs from
Neleigh Herring and
Lauren Lucas extended the Shockers' lead to 10-4 in the bottom of the sixth. Kansas City added one final run in the top of the seventh to make it 10-5.
Game 2 vs. Oklahoma State
Alison Cooper made it only 1.1 innings in the start at pitcher. She allowed five runs on three walks and two hits.
Caitlin Bingham threw the final 2.2 innings, giving up five runs on four walks and seven hits.
Oklahoma State no-hit the Shockers on Friday, but
Zoe Jones made sure it wouldn't happen for a second time. The Oklahoma native hit a two-run shot halfway back to Wichita to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
After that it was all Oklahoma State.
The lead didn't last long as OSU responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead. Three walks, two hits and an error led to the Cowgirls putting four runs on the board.
Oklahoma State extended its lead in the second with a pair of runs.
A run in the third and two more in the fourth put the Cowgirls on top 9-2 after four innings.
On the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth, Oklahoma State walked it off with a solo home run down the right field line.

Wichita State is scheduled to host Kansas on Wednesday for its 2022 home opener at 6 p.m. in Wilkins Stadium.
