Shockers Run-Rule Kansas City, Fall to No. 10 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – Wichita State run-ruled Kansas City, 16-2, in the opening game of the OSU Mizuno Classic, but dropped the second game against No. 10 Oklahoma State, 8-0.

Wichita State (16-8) broke the school record for hits in a single game with 22 in the opening game vs. Kansas City.

Game 1 vs. Kansas City

Sydney McKinney and Addison Barnard were combined 8-for-8 with six runs and six RBI. McKinney added to her hit total, going 4-for-4 with three runs and a double. Barnard drove in five runs behind a home run and three singles. Her four hits were a career high.

Neleigh Herring was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Her four RBI were a season high. Lauren Lucas continued her red-hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Wylie Glover tied a career high with three hits to go with two runs and two RBI. Krystin Nelson and Lainee Brown both added two hits.

Caitlin Bingham (7-1) allowed just two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings. She struck out two and walked only one.

McKinney smoked the first pitch of the game to left-center for a leadoff double, which led to a three-run top of the first inning. With the help of a strong wind blowing in, Herring was on the right end of an RBI double to score the first run of the game. RBI singles from Lauren Lucas and Krystin Nelson capped the top of the first to give the Shockers a 3-0 advantage.

In the top of the second, Herring added to her RBI total with a three-run home run to right, extending the lead to 6-0.

RBI singles in the top of the third from Wylie Glover and Addison Barnard pushed the margin to eight.

Kansas City broke up the shutout in the bottom of the third on a two-out solo home run.

The hit parade continued in the fourth inning, as Wichita State tacked on four more runs behind McKinney's RBI single and Barnard's three-run home run.

Wichita State put the finishing touches on the game with another four-spot in the top of the fifth. Caroline Tallent recorded her first career hit and RBI on a single. Glover drove in two on a single and throwing error. The final run came in on Barnard's fifth RBI of the game.

The Roos added one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homer to right-center.

Game 2 vs. Oklahoma State

Wichita State was held hitless in the 8-0 run-rule against the 10th-ranked Cowgirls.

Erin McDonald dropped to 3-5, allowing all eight runs on eight hits and six walks.

Oklahoma State jumped out to an early lead behind three runs in the bottom of the first. A solo home run in the bottom of the third increased their lead to 4-0.

The Cowgirls capitalized once again in the bottom of the fourth with a bases loaded two-out, two-run single to make it 6-0.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Oklahoma State scored the game's final two runs on a walk and fielder's choice.
