WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State starter Jace Kamniska threw seven strong innings to lead the Shockers to a 5-2 win over South Dakota State in game one of a three game series.

Kaminska went seven innings and gave up one run on two hits with one walk and a career-high eight strikeouts.

Brock Rodden went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a triple, while
Ross Cadena went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

The Shockers got on the board first in the bottom of the third.
Ross Cadena reached on an error to lead off the inning and after a walk and sacrifice bunt, Cadena scored on a sacrifice fly by
Jack Sigrist to give WSU an early 1-0 lead.

With two outs in the fourth, the Shockers added to the lead.
Couper Cornblum singled to right field and scored on a Cadena double in the right-center gap to push the lead to 2-0.

Cornblum reached on an error to lead off the sixth and moved to second on an infield single from Cadena. After a force out at second and a strikeout, Sigrist walked to load the bases with two outs.
Brock Rodden laced a triple down the right field line to clear the bases and give the Shockers a 5-0 advantage.

South Dakota State used solo home runs by Luke Ira in the seventh and Thatcher Kozal in the ninth to make the final score 5-2.

The Shockers and Jackrabbits play game two of the series on Sat., March 12 at 2 p.m. and wrap up the series on Sun., March 13 at 1 p.m.
