WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team is set to play their first three matches of the spring season this weekend at Genesis Health Club.
Â
"We're excited to play at home for opening weekend," head coach Danny Bryan said. "Hopefully, some people will come out and support the guys because they've been working hard."
Â
The team will play their opening match against Saint Louis on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., followed by a dual with Oral Roberts at 4 p.m. This is the first matchup with Saint Louis since 2005 when WSU won 6-1, and the Shockers look to extend a 27-match win streak against Oral Roberts. Wichita State plays Purdue Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
"I just want to see a team hungry to prove that we can do big things this year even though we're without Murkel [Dellien], Marius [Frosa] and Stef [Latinovic], who's out with knee surgery," Bryan said. "We're out our top three from last year and I think we have a lot to prove, but if the guys can play tough, we can surprise a lot of people."
Â
Kristof Minarik, who signed with the Wichita State in November, will be making his Shocker debut this weekend.
Â
"We're just excited to watch him play his first match with the team," Bryan said. "He's already shown that he's playing at a really good level, and he's fitting in really well with the guys so it should be fun."
