WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State scored only one run in the first game of the day vs. Omaha, winning 1-0, but the bats came alive in the nightcap, run-ruling Missouri State, 13-2, Thursday at Wilkins Stadium on the first day of the Wichita State Tournament.
Wichita State (13-3) scored 10 runs in the second inning vs. Missouri State to avenge a sluggish offensive performance in the morning vs. Omaha.
Bailey Lange recorded her sixth win of the season behind a complete game shutout in game one. She gave up just four hits and struck out six.
Madison Perrigan was 2-for-3 with a double.
Wichita State scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on
Ryleigh Buck's flyout to deep left.
Lauren Johnson scored from second after a throwing error from the right fielder.
The Shockers belted four home runs vs. the Bears – a two-run shot, two three-run bombs and a grand slam – accounting for 12 of the 13 runs in the game. Perrigan and
Addison Barnard both homered with four RBI apiece.
Lauren Mills drove in three on her pinch-hit bomb and
Neleigh Herring went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
Caitlin Bingham (2-0) got the start, pitching all 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three.
Wichita State opened the game with a leadoff triple from
Sydney McKinney, followed by a Barnard walk. Perrigan immediately made the Bears pay by driving her sixth home run of the season over the left-center wall.
A 10-run second inning saw Barnard clear the bases with her first career grand slam and team-best eighth home run of the season. Two batters later, Herring hit a towering shot to right-center just clearing the wall to make it 9-0.
Ryleigh Buck walked and
Bailee Nickerson singled to bring up Mills to pinch hit for
Camryn Compton. Mills delivered a monster shot to put the Shockers comfortably ahead 12-0.
The Shockers would add one more on a bases loaded walk by Perrigan.
Missouri State tallied both of its runs in the top of the third with an RBI groundout and RBI single.
