TUCSON, Ariz. – The 13th-ranked Arizona Wildcats outhit the Wichita State University baseball team, 12-8, helping them secure an 8-5 victory over the Shockers in the series opener of a three-game series Thursday, March 11, at Hi Corbett Field.

Wichita State (6-4) and Arizona (11-2) are scheduled to play game two of the series Friday, March 12, at 7 p.m. CT (6 p.m. MST).

Corrigan Bartlett went 2-for-4 and increased his team-best hitting streak to 10 games, while
Cooper Elliot tallied a pair of hits, including a double, and
David VanVooren and
Paxton Wallace each drove in a run , pacing the Shockers at the plate.
Ross Cadena also posted a double, respectively.

Liam Eddy (1-2) suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering seven runs – five earned – on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work.

Jacob Berry went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead Arizona in the batter's box. Donta Williams and Ryan Holgate also each collected a trio of hits in the contest for the Wildcats.

Wildcat starter Chase Silseth (3-0) earned the victory on the rubber after giving up three runs – one earned – on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks in seven innings, while Preston Price notched his second save of 2021 after getting the final two outs of the ninth inning.
