WICHITA, Kan. – No. 48 Wichita State got a quick 4-0 shutout victory over the University of the Pacific Tigers in their first match of the Pacific Central Valley Championship at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno, California on Saturday. WSU has now won six of their last seven matches.
The Shockers will be back in action this afternoon as they will take on the winner of the Hawaii versus San Francisco match at 4 p.m. in the semifinals.
This match was a little different than others as singles was played first in order to save time for the later scheduled matches throughout the day. Â
Senior
Murkel Dellien struck first on court one to claim his seventh singles victory of the season, 6-1, 6-2. Once Dellien got the ball rolling, it seemed as if the Shockers could do no wrong as freshman
Yi Jui Lo picked up a 6-1, 6-3, straight set victory to remain undefeated in singles.
Marius Frosa followed closely behind sealing a 6-2, 6-1 win on court four. Frosa now holds an impressive 9-2 singles record in 2020.
With the Shockers needing one more win to seal the match, freshman
Alex Richards answered the call. He rallied for a 6-2, 6-4 win on court five for his seventh victory of the spring season.
Orel Ovil was locked in a close three set battle on court three before being the match was suspended. At the time of suspension, he was leading, 6-4, 1-6, 2-1.
Stefan Latinovic also had his match suspended with him trailing, 4-6, 3-5.
