WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State women's tennis went 1-1 by beating Kansas City, 4-0, and losing to SMU, 4-0, at the Wichita Country Club on Thursday.
 
Match 1 vs. SMU
 
Doubles
The Mustangs jumped out to leads on both court one and court three. No. 28 Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva and Marta Bellucco were unable to hold off SMU's Nylander/Tcherkes Zade and fell, 6-2. An identical score was on court three and the Shocker duo of LingWei Kong and Ting-ya Hsu were forced to go unfinished.
 
Singles
Kong got her second start of the season on court one, but she was unable to duplicate her success and fell to SMU's Nylander, 6-2, 6-3. Similar fates welcomed the Shockers on courts two and four and the Mustangs clinched the match. Bellucco went unfinished on court three and was up, 6-4, 4-1, before play was suspended.
 
 
Match 2 vs. Kansas City
 
Doubles
Kong and Hsu took care of business as the No. 2 pair and swept Kansas City's Sharma/Vale. Back-and-forth matches on courts one and three led to a tight finish. Alexandra Lazarova and Allison Schulte, a KC transfer in her first game action as a Shocker, clinched the point for the Shockers with a 6-4 win.
 
Singles
Courts one, four, five and six started first to give the lower courts match action. Lazarova picked up the first victory for the Shockers in dominant fashion with a shutout sweep of KC's Vale. Hsu followed quickly with a 6-0, 6-1 win over McBlane. The match was clinched on court one by Kong as she came back down a set to win in three, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1.
